The Perfect Pill for the Perfect Girl

“She manifested freedom,

She found it — yet,

It wasn’t quite the usual”

There was one girl who desired freedom above perfection. She longed to be someone other than herself. Neha excelled at all she did — she was a disciplined, clean-living daughter who delighted her rich parents. Neha was not satisfied with her successes or perfection. Shady, her friend, led an unconventional lifestyle. Shady didn’t have high grades, her hair wasn’t properly combed, her clothes didn’t fully conceal her body, and had a drug-dealing boyfriend. Shady frequently told Neha about her nightlife, where the world is judgment-free and there are no rules to follow. Happiness only exists. This made Neha feel even more miserable about her situation and made her long for the freedom that Shady had.

Neha, like Shady, wanted to dance on the streets with no exact movements and stay out till midnight with no questions asked. Sleep with anybody where there is no question about virginity. Having love handles is not a punishment, and melting over ice cream is not a distant dream. Pamper herself with all the smoke that will transport her to another planet where there is no pain from perfection.

Every night, she tugged on her pillow, pleading with God to grant her deepest desires. Every day, the universe silently listened to her.

The unexpected knock on the door occurred at precisely midnight. The knocking went on even if she ignored it. She cautiously opened the door to see who may be there at that particular time. She expected no one at this moment as in her life it never happened that someone wished for her birthday at 12.

The door took her to the center of the smoke-filled chamber. The songs were played at an excessive volume. No one was completely awake. Except for the black guy looking at her, no one else seemed to be seeing her. He was too intense to look away from. She approached him and asked, “Can I?” She sat politely next to him without waiting for an answer. He then said, “new here”? She asked, “Does it matter? He had a fascinating smile.

It was then that she recognised something was missing from her appearance in the mirror: the flawless appearance. She wasn’t an egghead anymore. She could smell pizza on her breath. Butterfly tattoos on the wrists. Rainbow hair that reaches about her shoulders, red shaded lips, and ripped pants. She looked just the way she wanted. However, she had several questions.

She couldn’t remember what happened after she tucked herself under the pillow. Is this a dream? or nightmare? She was unable to respond, and she did not want to analyze any more, so she closed her eyes and took a big breath. That second, she was in her room. The purple sleep outfit. There was no more smoking. She hurried to the mirror and looked at herself. Perfect, Neha! Again, she closed her eyes, but nothing changed. She let out a big sigh and settled into her rhythm.

The next night at the same timings, she found herself in a new reality. She was experiencing things that she could not believe. Even though it both excited and terrified her, she did not want to miss out on the opportunity to shift environments. Every night, it would repeat itself. She began to fit in and go out into the unfamiliar world gradually. She lit up a cigarette for herself and danced to a tune flawlessly.

She let things happen, even if she didn’t understand or agree with them. However, the consequences begin to manifest themselves in the real world — body aches, different hair colors, and love handles arise. She struggled to focus on her schoolwork. Her grades began to drop from the flawless 100. She has to tell someone what’s going on, but she doesn’t think she can trust anybody but Shady!

Because only Shady knows what is happening to her. The Magic pill!!
